Early last week, I took Lily into the doctor's office for what seemed to be a mild cough and maybe an ear infection. Thirty minutes later, we were being rushed to Primary Children's Hospital via ambulance due to Lily's low oxygen levels. "What?" I had no idea. This was no ear infection. Our little flower had RSV!
Our hospital stay was the longest two days of mine and Martin's life. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little, but at the time, it felt like it. Lily got sicker, I worried more than humanly possible, and Martin stepped up taking the night shift while filling her full of liquids. (Liquids and oxygen. That's where it's at in fighting this nasty viral infection.)
One morning, a doctor came in and said that she was told that there was the, "cutest little girl in pig tails, on the third floor that had RSV." She asked us if Lily could be part of a study about children with infectious diseases and how to combat/prevent them. Since Primary's is one of the top hospitals in the nation for children, how could we say, "no" to something that could help other children in the future? We complied and then they had us fill out all kinds of forms, answer a bunch of questions, and did some blood work on Lily.
A few hours later, the PR department of the hospital came in and asked if the Deseret News could come in and take a few photos of Lily for an article that would be running over the weekend. I thought, "Why not?"
Unfortunately, I was running out the door for an appointment when the photographer showed up, but Martin stayed behind and was a great "stage dad." The best part is that Lily and Martin made the front page! Below is what appeared in the paper about Lily, and her infectious disease... for being so cute!
